Vegan tapas in Edinburgh
A traditional Spanish kitchen on Howden Street, with a vegan list that is short, honest and marked on every menu.
We would rather say it up front: Tapas Tres is not a vegan restaurant. We are a family-run Spanish kitchen in Edinburgh’s Southside, cooking the traditional dishes we grew up with, and a lot of them have meat, fish, cheese or eggs in them.
Spanish cooking has always leaned on vegetables, olive oil, bread and almonds, though, and some of our plates need nothing else. Those are marked VG on the menu, in the restaurant and online. Below is every one of them, taken straight from the current menu. One of them, the churros, is made vegan on request, so mention it when you order. There are daily specials on the board in the restaurant too, so ask whether any of them are vegan.

Ordering as a vegan
Tapas are for sharing, so a vegan table works like any other: three or four plates each, in the middle, and another round if you want one. A good start is the Padrón peppers and a Pan con Tomate while you read the menu, then the tempura aubergine with its sugarcane treacle and the grilled calçots with romesco. Finish with churros and chocolate, made vegan when you ask.
Booking for a group where some people eat everything and some eat no animal products at all? Tell us when you book, so the kitchen knows before you arrive, and tell your server about any allergies before you order.
If dairy and eggs are fine for some of your table, our vegetarian tapas page adds the cheeses, the tortilla and the bravas. For everything else, there is the guide to tapas at Tapas Tres and the FAQ.
